“Arriving late was a way of saying that your own time was more valuable than the time of the person who waited for you.”- Karen Joy Fowler. Being on time is a principle that many people struggle with; this is why the people who are on time, or perhaps early, stand out from the rest. In life as you grow as a person, punctuality becomes even more important in your life. You go to school, you get a job, you become a part of something bigger. When are old enough to have a job, it is a wakeup call to most that things are not handed to you, you must work for them and take pride in what you do. Part of taking pride in your job is showing up on time and also showing up to work to do just that; work. I am an employee that is always on time and I strive to be ten minutes early.

Being on time is important to me because I know that in a professional environment such as a dental office being late is not ever acceptable. Your patients are not thrilled about having to make a trip to the dentists because often, visits to the office give patients unease. A lot of patients fear the dentist because they still associate the dentists with pain. With modern anesthetics such as novacane and nitrous oxide dentist can perform procedures with virtually little to no pain. It is your job to run the office and make sure that your patients are happy. If a patient has an appointment at the office at eight a.m., your patient deserves to be seen when they are scheduled to be. If you show up late to work and you don’t arrive until nine, your patient is not going to be happy that they have wasted their time. This is why to be punctual is a very good habit.

I currently am employed at the Beach Bar in Clarklake, Michigan. I have been working at the Beach Bar since April of 2015. I decided to get a job in April because when I turned sixteen I realized once you get a car, you need one in order to pay for gas and miscellaneous things that you can no longer ask your parents to buy for you. Even though I know this is only my first job, I strive to be the best worker I can be. I often pick up others shifts, come in earlier, and work seventy hours in the summer. But out of all of these aspects of my hard work being punctual is something almost every employer will recognize.

Not only will my first job give me work experience but when I apply to get another job I can use my previous job as a reference and if I was on time, helpful, and a good worker they will leave a good word with my possible employer. This is important to me because I do not aspire to work in the food industry I plan to go into a prestigious career of which will lead me to many opportunities. Everyone must start somewhere so that is why it is important to put in the effort to form your resume and also your work ethic. Being on time shows someone that you are there for the right reasons. No one enjoys getting up early for school or work so how are you any different? This why people look for punctuality. It takes someone with real determination and strive to achieve timeliness.

Being on time makes you stand out from the rest. In my future career it is important to be on time because time is money. It is important for a dentist to be able to be skilled in time management. In my college life, it will be important to be on time to class and show that I am there to learn and receive a good education. All of my dental classes will be very competitive so this is why it is important to show that I am able to compete in my program.
