Medical Terminology is like a foreign language for those outside of the medical field. This is so because medical terms were created to explain the human body and also for medical professionals to be able to communicate to health care providers in another medical profession because the terms are universal. In my first year of dental, every Monday we are assigned terms and then we take a test on Friday.

I chose these specific med-term quizzes because being able to understand and communicate in my careers “jargon” is critical. On the med-term quizzes we are given a suffix or a prefix and we have to identify the meaning. For example, the prefix sym- or syn- means joined, fused, or together. I have been able to achieve 100 percent on all of these quizzes because of my ability to manipulate medical terminology.

Being able to understand the language of the health care industry is important in order to be successful in my career choice. As a young college student I am going to be required to study medical and dental terminology so already having a background of the language is a step ahead. As a dentist in order to communicate with my team and other doctors I must be able to have an expansive knowledge of medical terminology.
