More than two-thirds of the United States population is overweight, this is an astronomical number. That is 68.8 percent of the American popuation. European countries generally have lower obesity rates. France's current obesity rate is 40.9 percent. A lot of the population blames establishments such as McDonalds and Bruger King for these high rates of obesity, but when it comes down to it, it is due to the inactivity of the population. 150 minutes of aerobic exercise and proper nutrition can prevent obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. If more people understood the importance of physical education, our country would not be known as the "fat nation." I have always enjoyed working out because as a future health care professional, I have knowledge of the effects on the body from not taking care of it and also I feel a sense of accomplishment after a workout it truly gives me personal satisfaction. I first started caring about working out when I was a freshman in my personal fitness class. We were required to fill out an accountability worksheet. This helped me to work out because I like being able to see what I have accomplished during a week and I also was able to see where I need to improve.
On the accountability sheet I was required to list the exercises I planned to do which these exercises were my main focus. I also listed reps I completed and also the weight applied to these reps. I normally did exercises that included cardio but I also did some light weight lifting. The days I focused mostly on cardio were Wednesday and Friday. Wednesdays I would do fifteen minute runs in three intervals so in total I would run for forty-five minutes. On a normal Friday I would work out on the elliptical. I enjoy working out on an elliptical because it is a good cardiovascular workout that isn't too strenuous on my joints. I enjoyed working out on this specific machine so much that I purchased an elliptical myself. It is especially important for me to have a workout routine because of my health history of heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. The most important factor in order to combat these conditions is to stay active, eat well, and live a healthy life. This piece of work was chosen for these reasons.
It is important to understand my family history because of my genetics and the only reason why a lot of my family has health issues is because of their life decisions. Having this thought process so young is important because as a college student with school work and also a career, I need to remind myself that I need to make time to be a healthy individual and that in order to live a long full life I need to take preventative measures. In my career as a health care professional, I will be a role model to my patients. It is important to exhibit health and well being. \
